Non-Borrowing Spouses or Domestic Partners When Doing a Reverse Mortgage

If after looking at the considerations above you have still decided to continue without a spouse or domestic partner on the reverse mortgage, they may still be involved to some extent.
If the non-borrowing spouse is currently on title, they are required to complete the HECM counseling. It doesn't have to be with the same counselor or at the same time. But it should be done prior to the borrower applying for the reverse mortgage. This might also apply to a domestic partner depending on current laws.
This also applies to a non-borrowing spouse NOT on title. The same would apply to a domestic partner or anyone else not on title.
